Instant Pot One Pot Quick Bolognese and Ziti (with Frozen Meat)

Scenes from an Absentminded Anonymous meeting:

Lana: Hi everyone, I’m Lana.

Members: Hi Lana.

Lana: It’s been 5 hours since I forgot to defrost something for dinner. The last time I forgot was this evening at 6 pm when I got home and I went to make dinner and realized I had nothing defrosted and even though I had spent hundreds of dollars at the grocery store for a freezer full of options, I had to order………. pizza!

Members: (GASP!!!)

Does this sound like you? Don’t be ashamed because I used to be right where you were and I am here to tell you, you can be cured!

Instant Pot One Pot Quick Bolognese with Ziti (with Frozen Meat)

Recipe by Lana Horruitiner Perez

  • 8 oz Ziti Rigati
  • 3 cups Water
  • 1 lb frozen, Ground Beef (or whatever your favorite meat is to use for bolognese)
  • 2 Tbl Olive Oil
  • Salt
  • Your favorite dry Italian Seasoning
  • 24 oz Pasta Sauce

Equipment: Tall Trivet, Foil

Line the top of the trivet with foil and create a  slight lip around the  edge. Set aside.

In this exact order add to your Instant Pot: 3 cups Water, 8 oz Ziti Rigati, the foil lined trivet, and 1 lb frozen Ground Beef.20190714_170649

Lock the Instant Pot Lid into place and make sure the valve is set to the “SEALED” position. Pressure Cook for 2 mins on High. Quick Release when done.

Open pot and place the Ground Beef into a bowl and set aside (it won’t look very appetizing, that’s ok. The outside will be cooked but the inside will still be raw.) Pour the Pasta into a colander and drain the water. Run with cold water for a second just to stop cooking, but not too cool the pasta off completely. 20190714_173220

Use your hands and a fork and break the meat into small pieces.

Sprinkle Salt and your favorite Italian spice blend to the Ground Beef.

In the empty Instant Pot press “SAUTE” button. Once hot, add 2 Tbl Olive Oil. Add the Ground Beef mix and cook while stirring and using a wooden spatula to break up the meat even more. 20190714_174513

Once it’s cooked through and starting to brown, stir in the 24 oz of jarred Pasta Sauce and heat until boiling. (You can use whatever sauce you want. If you are awesome and have homemade, that even better.)

Turn off the “SAUTE” function once the Bolognese is hot. You can either add the Ziti to the sauce or ladle over the Ziti individually. 20190714_17554420190714_17523820190714_175344
